you opt out, you tell them why, they stop billing you and everyone is happy. How hard is it, in 2017 to cancel an account on any services online? It's easy.

Now that I want to cancel, it's taking even more time/energy.Ĭonsider my account canceled, and if you take my money, the charges will be reversed and you will be reported to the authorities for fraud.
Idive drive background software#
I am fed up with how much time was wasted dealing with iDrive Support on the iDrive software bugs. What is it about iDrive Support that makes them so incompetent at reading/comprehending what the customer is trying to tell them? Again, I get another response telling me the same thing! I even sent the screenshot. So I replied and explained it a second time. That's exactly what I tried to do in the first place, but THERE IS NO "cancel account" button or link. They told me to log into my account, go to the Profile page and click on "cancel account". scroll to the bottom: "To cancel your account before the end of your subscription term, PLEASE CONTACT OUR Support Team". Meanwhile, I don't see the "cancel account" link on my iDrive Profile page: Screenshot of iDrive Profile pageĪs per your FAQ. Unlike iDrive, no files are skipped, it's unobtrusive, the backup size is correctly calculated, it always runs when it's scheduled, and I never have to delete/reinstall it.

I'm done jacking around with your broken software and have since switched to Backblaze, which has been operating flawlessly. simple rename and moves would be a great value add for version control and just overall usability. I believe the addition of the iDrive SW being able differentiate content change vs. iDrive seems to treat the moved file as if it was a new file. One can also see a shortcoming w/ the iDrive SW in that when an archived file that has version history is moved, the new location of the file doesn't retain the version history. If it was the latter, its SW did not require wasted re-uploading or wasted space. I was a Crashplan user, and their SW was able to detect when the file itself actually changed, causing a 'delta' upload with version control, or whether it was only a rename or a move. So now my quota is at 1.8GB and I have three sets of the same file. \home\Family_Pictures_2017, iDrive SW doesn't detect that it is the same file being move from one folder to the next, and it archives/uploads the four files again in the final folder location. Now that everything is done, I want to MOVE my four renamed pictures to their final folder destination on my NAS. pic1.jpg and birthday_2017_1.jpg).Ĥ) (The issues gets worse.) As mentioned before, my four keepers are in a temporary folder. Further, if I were to look in that temporary folder via, I would unnecessarily see two sets of files (i.e. (This is where the issues start.) Not only do I waste unnecessary upload bandwidth and time to re-upload a renamed only file, I now am also wasting my iDrive quota. So now my iDrive storage total is 1.4GB [1GB (original 10 pics) + 0.4GB (renamed file). let's say rename them to be birthday_2017_1.jpg, birthday_2017_2.jpg, and so on.) Because iDrive SW doesn't detect that the only difference between pic1.jpg and birthday_2017_1.jpg is the filename, iDrive SW archives these four renamed files as if they were "new" files. Trying to be organized, I want to rename the four pictures that I want to keep (e.g. No big deal here.ģ) Having a bunch pictures all named pic_xyz.jpg isn't really helpful or informative for me for future reference. Given iDrive doesn't delete any archived items until I do an "Archive Cleanup," I'm still using 1GB of iDrive storage. Let's say each picture is 100MB so these ten pictures will take 1GB of my iDrive storage.Ģ) At this point, I review these ten pictures and decide that I really want to keep only four of them.

Before I do anything with the pictures, I have these pictures backed up to the iDrive cloud. Here is my example workflow when i take pictures on my camera:ġ) I upload/copy my pictures onto my NAS into some temporary folder (default filenames might be pic1.jpg, pic2.jpg. Coming from the Crashplan platform/SW, I believe iDrive's software is lacking with regards to the subject line (at least on the Qnap App) feature which causes users that copy/delete/rename/move large files to waste a lot of iDrive storage space and/or waste a lot of unnecessary uploading when the "content" of the file has already been backed up.
